On the distribution of multiplicatively dependent vectors

In this paper, we study the distribution of multiplicatively dependent vectors. For example, although they have zero Lebesgue measure, they are everywhere dense both in Rn\R^n and \C^n. We also study this property in a more detailed manner by considering the covering radius of such vectors.Comment: 19 page

Sequential induction of NF-κB/Rel family proteins during B-cell terminal differentiation

The NF-kappa B/Rel family of at least five transcription factor polypeptides is thought to function both as a developmental regulator in B cells and as a rapid response system in all cells. To examine this notion in more detail, we determined the protein contents of both the inducible and constitutive NF-kappa B/Rel activities in a pre-B-cell line, 70Z/3, and a mature B-cell line, WEHI 231. NF-kappa B p50/p65 is the major inducible nuclear complex after lipopolysaccharide or phorbol myristate acetate treatment of 70Z/3 cells. The constitutive and inducible complexes in WEHI 231 cells are mainly composed of p50 and Rel. The constitutive or induced activities are all sensitive to I kappa B-alpha, but this inhibitor is very short-lived in WEHI 231 cells, suggesting that the balance between synthesis and degradation of I kappa B-alpha determines whether a particular cell lineage has constitutive activity. A patterned expression of the NF-kappa B/Rel activator proteins emerges from an analysis of other B-lineage cell lines and splenic B cells: mainly p50 and p65 in pre-B (and non-B) cells, a predominance of Rel and p50 in mature B cells, and expression of p52 and RelB in plasmacytoma lines. This ordered pattern of regulators may reflect the requirement for expression of different genes during terminal B-cell differentiation because different combinations of NF-kappa B/Rel family members preferentially activate distinct kappa B sites in reporter constructs

This study aims to obtain empirical evidence of the effect of firm size, the size of the board of commissioners, profitability and leverage on the disclosure of social responsibility in manufacturing companies on the Stock Exchange in 2009-2011, as well as answers to some of the results of previous research gaps regarding the effect of firm size, the size of the board of commissioners , profitability and leverage on the disclosure of corporate social responsibility. This study uses financial statement data of manufacturing firms during the period 2009-2011. Analysis tools are used to examine the effect of the variables in this study were the F test (ANOVA) for simultaneous testing of multiple regression equations and partial t test to test each variable X to variable Y. Besides, to see how much the contribution of each variable used Adjusted R square. Overall analysis using SPPS program. The results showed that of the test or ANOVA F test, indicating the size of the company, the size of the board of commissioners, profitability and simultaneously leverage effect on social responsibility disclosure in manufacturing companies on the Stock Exchange in 2009-2011 with 95% confidence level. Then from the partial test results using the t test is known that only firm size and profitability have a significant influence on the disclosure of social responsibility, while the size of the board of commissioners and leverage does not have a significant effect on the disclosure of social responsibility. This research is  expected to provide an overview and understanding of the relationship of corporate social responsibility disclosure

This research aimed to analyze the effect of Dividend Policy, Liquidity,NPM, ROE, and PBV on stock prices of manufacturing companies in 2010 – 2013.Samples were manufacturing companies that listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange in2010 – 2013. This research uses 72 data with 18 selected companies per year. Theanalysis tool used in this research is multiple linear regression using SPSS computerprogram version 21.0. The results show that Dividend Policy, Liquidity, NPM, ROE,and PBV jointly have significantly affected the stock price. Partially, Dividend Policyhave significantly affected the stock price, whereas Liquidity, NPM, ROE, and PBVhave not significantly affected the stock price

Local orbital-angular-momentum dependent surface states with topological protection

Chiral surface states along the zigzag edge of a valley photonic crystal in the honeycomb lattice are demonstrated. By decomposing the local fields into orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes, we find that the chiral surface states present OAM-dependent unidirectional propagation characteristics. Particularly, the propagation directivities of the surface states are quantified by the local OAM decomposition and are found to depend on the chiralities of both the source and surface states. These findings allow for the engineering control of the unidirectional propagation of electromagnetic energy without requiring an ancillary cladding layer. Furthermore, we examine the propagation of the chiral surface states against sharp bends. It turns out that although only certain states successfully pass through the bend, the unidirectional propagation is well maintained due to the topology of the structure.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figure

An application of social network analysis to knowledge building

Paper presented at the structured poster symposium of AERA Annual Meeting 2003Theme: Probing individual, social, and cultural aspects of knowledge buildingThis paper is a design study that explores the use of server log data to guide knowledge building. We use the Analytic Toolkit for Knowledge Forum™ (KF) and techniques from social network analysis to analyze participation and interactivity in two KF databases. In doing so, we connect individual measures on the use of KF features with measures that probe collaboration at a more systemic level. In this, we are attempting to move from a view of assessment that in our view is overly individual (Chan & van Aalst, in press). The first case study is drawn from a grade 4 class studying electricity and First Nations issues; the second study is drawn from a grade 9 class preparing for the International Baccalaureate Program. In each case, the results uncover useful information about participation and interactivity. In the first study, there were correlations between the use of KF features and the social network variables that deteriorated over time; there also was a lack of reciprocity in the interactions. The students in the second study used the features of KF more extensively, which was accompanied by more reciprocity. In that study there were no significant relationships between the use of KF features and the social network variables. We emphasize not the findings of the studies themselves, but argue that analyses like these be used to inform a class’s ongoing efforts to improve its knowledge building discourse.postprin
